The Future of Fiber Internet: What’s To Come?

The internet has evolved significantly since it was first invented. We’ve graduated from dial-up to better, faster internet options like fiber internet. The internet has come a long way, but the internet of today will continue to evolve to suit our needs tomorrow.

The Future of the Internet

How we use the internet today will vary widely from how the internet is used in the future. Today, we use devices like keyboards and screens to interact with the internet. As the internet becomes a bigger part of our everyday lives, the ways we use it will evolve.

Instead of being separated by glass when we access the online world, our connection to the internet will become more automatic and permanent. The internet will integrate into our everyday tasks, more so than it already has.

Instead of typing a search onto a keyboard, we’ll simply ask the question out loud. Instead of viewing the internet on devices, it will be integrated into our environment. We’re already seeing these technologies today, with devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Glass.

As we place increasing demands on the internet, our need for high-speed internet will also increase. Data transmission speeds are expected to increase globally, but there is currently a large gap between what speeds are possible and what is available.

Many people today rely on copper cables for their internet, a technology that has existed since the 1800s. Cable internet has many disadvantages, including bandwidth problems and slower speeds overall. Faster internet options, like fiber optic internet, will be required to support our growing internet demands.

Fiber Optic Internet the New Standard

Fiber optic internet is known for its many benefits, including increased reliability and speeds. It’s the best option for high-speed internet, especially when compared to outdated alternatives like cable internet and satellite internet

For those who live in a lit area (an area with fiber internet), it’s the obvious choice, but for those who don’t, fiber internet is likely their best option for the future.

How Fiber Internet Can Change (& Improve) Lives

Fiber internet has the potential to reach areas that have never had internet before. Rural areas, remote areas, and developing areas can all benefit greatly from the prospect of fiber internet.

The internet is an essential part of business, education, and even medical care. With new access to the internet, underserved communities can not only expand their economies but solve social and environmental problems as well.

Fiber Internet & 5G

5G will offer mobile internet speeds never seen before. Compared to a 4G connection, 5G is 600 times faster. The promise of 5G will allow us to connect more than just our phones; it brings the potential of self-driving cars and other artificial intelligence opportunities.

In order for 5G to become a reality, however, fiber internet needs to be a part of the equation. Many are calling 5G internet wireless fiber, because of its speed and because of the way 5G relies on fiber optic infrastructure.

To get wireless 5G, the data needs to be transmitted non-wirelessly to a certain point. The best way to transmit the data is with fiber optic cables. In order for 5G and other internet technologies to become a reality, fiber will need to run close to homes and businesses.

Fiber Internet for Everyone

The more fiber that is installed, the more people who will have access to better internet and better opportunities. It’s clear that the internet is in our future, and that fiber internet is a large part of that.
